Ill Two Months, Pearce Pioneer Dies in Tucson
Mrs. Musette Grantham, 66, widow of R. L. Grantham and pioneer of the Pearce neighborhood, died at noon
Wednesday at the Tucson home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Boice. she had been ill two months.
Forty-five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Grantham came to Light, 42 miles north of Douglas on the Turkey Creek road off
Route 666, and started a general store. Later and for many years they operated a combined filling station
and store at this location.
Born May 28, 1880 in Catawba, N. C. to Andy and Forrester Walls Powell, decedent attended schools in
Fort White, Fla., and Duncan, Ariz. she came to Arizona in 1897.
Survivors include two daughters and four sons: Mrs. Boice of Tucson, Lee Grantham of Benson, Robert
Grantham of Nogales, Wesley Grantham of Willcox, Mrs. Erma Logan (who was with her in Tucson), and
Charley Grantham of Fairbanks. There are ten grandchildren.
Two sisters and four brothers survive: Ed Powell of douglas, Frank Powell of Willcox, Ted Powell of
Hollywood, Mrs. Richard Connelly of Inglewood, Calif., and Mrs. Elbert Webb of Bishop, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the church at Pearce. Burial will be made in
Pearce cemetery.
