MIRAMONTE CEMETERY
Located abt. 10 miles SW of Benson on the Bill Williams Ranch
Extracted May 2000 by Marcella "Marti" Martineau Roe - Additional notes added 2008
The information pertaining to the Miramonte Cemetery is not completely accurate. I know that this information came from a film from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City but who ever gave that information is completely wrong on the 4th burial. "no surname, Louise, b. 1863. d. 1863" Miramonte did not even exist until 1914 so there's no way that Louis could be buried there. There are 4 burials there - two have headstone and the two middle burials do not. The middle two are babies. Every single person in that cemetery is related to me.
1. Vearl DAVIS ("Pearl" is what is written on the copper plaque hanging on the fence - the name should be Vearl)
26 June 1916 - 5 Aug 1916 (According to the Miramonte Branch minutes (LDS Archives Film LR 13408-Item2)
August 4, 1916 - funeral services for Vearl Davis were held at the home of the parents. At the cemetery, William Jarvis
dedicated the plot of ground selected for the Miramonte graveyard and also dedicated the grave. (This would make Vearl being the first being buried in the cemetery).
Vearl is a twin son of Heber J. Davis and Christina "Stina" Thompson (Thomsen)and grandson of Joseph Cadwallader Davis.(JC Davis is 2nd great-grandfather of Marcella M. Roe)
2. Raymond ANDERSON (Found in IGI: Parents are Alfred Oscar ANDERSON & Arvilla DAVIS)
3 July 1920 - 3 July 1920 Film 170715, page 521, Ref. 21314
Marriage for Anderson/Davis in IGI: 23 Sept 1919, Miramonte Acres.(Batch: H002044 Source Call: 884425-884435)
Raymond Anderson is son of Alfred Oscar Anderson and Arvilla Davis. Arvilla is also a daughter of Heber J. Davis and
Christina "Stina" Thomsen (Ida Martineaus grandfather is Henry August Martineau.
3. Edward "Teddy" Clare JESPERSON son of Edward Christian JESPERSON and Ida MARTINEAU. (Ida Martineau's grandfather is Henry August Martineau, Brother to Moroni Martineau) (gg father of Marcella Roe) 11 Feb 1917 - 30 June 1920 died after a short illness which according to Dr. Morrison, might have been cerebral spinal meningitis (Edward C. Jesperson-Ida Martineau family history book)
4. George Calvin WILLIAMS (GC Williams is great grandfather to Marcella Martineau Roe)
27 Feb 1836 - 7 Nov 1916
Calvin Williams was living with daughter, Altia Williams Naegle and son-in-law, Daniel Conrad Naegle, in Mescal when he died.
Our original transcription was as follows:
Anderson, Raymond, b. 3 July 1920, Bisbee, Cochise, Arizona, son of Alfred Oscar Anderson and Arvilla Davis, d. 3 July 1920, age few minutes
Davis, Vearl (twin), b. 26 June 1916, Miramonte, Cochise, Arizona, child of Heber Davis and Christina Thompson, d. 5 Aug. 1916
Williams, George Calvin, b. 27 Feb. 1836, Hamilton Co, Tennessee, son of George Washington Williams and Elizabeth Davis, d. 7 Nov 1917.
Husb of Martha Bearl Easterly
No surname, Louis, b. 1863, d. 1863
At time of death these graves located near Whetstone, a railraod station, in a cow pasture. It was called Miramonte, a LDS Branch and settlement, now not in existence. Presently located on Bill Williams Ranch. Several LDS families homesteaded this area and one of the members gave a deed to the Rranch, called Miramonte, for 5 acres for a cemetery. Later the members mostly moved away with exceptions of 3 or 4 that kept their ranches. The Ward was dissolved and records sent to Pomerene Branch. Records were secured from Arvilla Davis Anderson, a mother and sister to the two deceased.
